Fantasy Faire 2019: Literary Festival

The Mythos of the Fairelands 4PM SLT/PDT

"Gravity? Forget it. The greater law is narrative.Things happen as they do because it makes for a better story." (From Lectures to the Symposia Fairelandia, by Dr. George Gerald, Chair of the Department of Darke Magick and Social Media, Bard Queen's College)
Zander Greene, co-founder of Fantasy Faire, shares some of the threads that make up the rich tapestry of the Fairelands' official canon. Why do the Fairelands change every year? Why does Junction always reappear in anew form? Who is the Bard Queen and who is her mortal enemy, the Unweaver? For the answers to these and other (much sillier) questions, join us for The Mythos of the Fairelands. Meet us in the Trollmouth in Trollhaugen for the event.

Fantasy Faire 2019, It's Time!

PRESS RELEASE

* * Fantasy Faire 2019, April 18 – May 5* *
A Benefit for the American Cancer Society

Celebrating its eleventh year, Fantasy Faire 2019 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, role-players and performers in the virtual world. From Thursday, April 18 to Sunday May 5, treat yourself to shopping, dance and theater performances, DJ parties, auctions, questing, our Literary Festival, fantasy art, events and role-playing as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.

Fantasy Faire has always officially lasted eleven days, and in recent years we’ve been fortunate to have a few extra days added. This year we’re making it official: our formal programming will still conclude with our One Team dance party marathon on Monday, April 29th, but now we invite you to join us for an additional week of shopping, questing, and exploring as the Fairelands will be open through Sunday, May 5th. That’s a total of eighteen days of the Faire – and you never know when something unexpected might happen in that final week!

As always, you’ll find fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets and exclusive items available from almost 200 of Second Life’s top Fantasy Creators across ten stunning regions designed by some of the visionary artists behind many of the hottest spots on the Second Life destination guide.

In addition to the ten shopping regions there will also be six Faireland realms that take us beyond commerce, from a Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, the Literary Festival, Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection. These bring the Fairelands count for 2019 to sixteen regions, just waiting for you to explore them.

Fantasy Faire 2019 will be open to the public April 18 – May 5. The SLurl to the event will, as always, be found on the website on our opening day. We welcome you to come and join the story.

Fantasy Faire 2019 is made possible by the generous support of our Region and Event Sponsors, all of whom you can learn more about on the Faire’s website. For more information please contact one of the Faire coordinators:

[InSL] What keeps you here?

What keeps you

?????

Aemeth wrote a guest post on Juicy Bomb May 12th, 2015 in response to this May 11th entry on New World Notes. After some pondering to take it all in,what stood out to me most was this:
"I believe this is a good time for everyone to reflect on what keeps them here. When you find that thing, talk about that thing. What keeps you here?"(bolding obviously mine)

*I try to keep my quotes from other blogs short, linked and well-credited because I hesitate to summarize what are usually thoughtful,  well-written posts that deserve reading in full.
But little snippets sometimes feel like personal calls to actions or will spark an idea for something I'd also like to write about or contribute to.
Aside from factual or event information news, I think that citing other blogs just to jump on their news trains or namedrop to trade on someone's  keyword credibility is gauche even though it might be 'good for my search metrics'. Bougie much? But that's another post! [insert link to own post, laugh wryly at self]

Day 2298

Designing Worlds Weekly Report: Episode 237, Metaverstas

Well I don't watch TV in RL but it seems I do in Second Life!! BUT...so far only recently at the
viewing parties on Mondays (2pm SLT/PST/GMT-7) at the Designing Worlds Studios with fellow fans and the hosts and creators, Saffia Widdershins,  Elrik Merlin and talented photographer Wildstar Beaumont. I guess am sometimes more of a social bee in SL than RL too.
TV lounging...there's even a popcorn machine in the studio.

I did watch a YouTube video about someone's Linden Home though since I am getting one myself, and saw their big tv and linked laptop so more about that kind of business later....

From the notecard delivered this morning:
Case Dirval and Yolanda Hirvi are the designers behind Metaverstas ( in English ), and they take us through three fascinating projects – firstly a virtual microbrewery created for a technical college, then a series of biochemistry laboratories created for Finland’s largest university, and finally a history project created to teach high school students about the Winter War, when Finland was attacked by the USSR in 1939.

Case Dirval demonstrates the brewery functions

The projects demonstrates how Second Life can be used to replicate processes which would –
if based in the real world – would be hugely time consuming and costly. They also offer
the opportunity for students to learn associated tasks such as laboratory safety and
security without needing to utilise real facilities. And they also offer the opportunity
to study exactly how students learn.

"Hirvi" means 'moose' in Finnish...of course!

I was really fascinated all the way through this time, I didn't even dash for coffee like I
usually do, I rarely sit still through a show, poor Mr Abe and my local friends tolerate my fidgets but once in awhile something will really hold my attention.  It may seem odd to read a report on a news program but you always hear about these great educational opportunities in SL but rarely see them profiled in-depth like this, or get to meet the people involved so bravo to Ms Widdershins and Mr Merlin for this week's episode.
There was a smaller audience than usual this time but many people are surely busy since
the SL11B build deadline is fast approaching in 10 days. More about THAT later as well...such lead-ins, so shameless!

Ms Hirvi is a talented creator, I have several of her items from back in the days of Metaversal Arts, beginning with the welcome gifts when it opened. People often quietly take root in SL and then continue to blossom!

You can catch up with Designing Worlds, watch past episodes or even have a peek at the
in-world studios using the links below but it's most fun to attend the viewing parties in-world every Monday.
Next week...Mers!! Can't miss it!
